In comparison with the German coast, where everything is subordinated to tourism, the Swiss side of Lake Constance seems to know nothing about tourists and does not want to know. Therefore, you need to prepare especially carefully for a vacation there.
Does it make sense to go there at all? Consider the pros and cons below.
Lake Constance (Bodensee) is one of the most favorite places of vacation. And this is its main drawback for everyone who wants to relax. For those who are not disturbed by the crowds of walking, skating, swimming and eating, there are a lot of advantages: clean water, equipped beaches and warm pools, water sports and entertainment, numerous asphalt roads for pedestrians and cyclists along the shore and between vineyards, delicious food, fresh trout from the lake, finally enough attractions if everything else gets bored.
The attractions near Dresden are no less curious than the city itself (read more about Dresden): these are natural attractions – the so-called Saxon Switzerland begins here, and palaces, castles, and museums. I managed to visit two places – the Bastei rocks and the Königstein fortress. About them in more detail, about the rest briefly with a map.
Lake Constance family holidays is one of the best family holidays in Germany. The best in this sense is the section around Überlingen and Meersburg to Friedrichshafen. There is so much entertainment there that you can’t visit it all in one vacation.
The Swiss side is less interesting and attractions are further from the shore. Moreover, there are steep slopes and more depth. But in the Rhine Delta, the lake is shallow, and it is great for swimming with children.
Quedlinburg has escaped the destruction of great wars and devastating fires. Its 1200 half-timbered houses from different eras await your cameras and your admiration.
The city is considered by many to be the most romantic of the Harz cities. We liked Wernigerode better, but only because that that year Quedlinburg was the most renovated of the Harz cities. Now, of course, you can see it in all its glory.
Chiemsee Lake is the largest lake in Bavaria and the third largest in Germany. It is called also Bavarian Sea. It is known mainly for the palace of Ludwig 2 of Bavaria, located on the island of Herren, and the monastery on the island of Frauen.
But do not forget that here you can spend a full vacation, inexpensive and varied. Within 30-90 minutes drive you can find cultural attractions, historical cities, museums, and natural attractions – mountains, lakes. On one side of the Autobahn to Salzburg there is a large network of cycling routes, on the other side of the Autobahn there are mountain hiking trails.
According to legend, the knight Ramm, or rather, his restless horse, discovered silver ore on Rammelsberg. The horse was tied to a tree while hunting. Out of boredom, he dug up the ground with his hoof and exposed the ore, a sample of which the knight brought to the king. The wife of a knight named Gose Goslar owes its name. From this legend, the real were the kings. For quite a long time, Goslar was the imperial residence town.
Rammelsberg has been a source of wealth for the Goslar for centuries. Now both the former mine and the preserved half-timbered town are included in the UNESCO list.
Before, I did not understand why tourists visit the Luneburg Heath in such an amazing amount. But now I know and I will always be glad to come back again.
Heath is something amazing. It would seem that it should be just depressing: swampy landscape, clusters of trees here and there. But instead, you have a sense of freedom. The smell of pines and heather, the buzzing of bees – you can walk endlessly.
If someone wants to properly swim in the sea, perhaps you are not right in Cuxhaven. When the tide comes, the dragons guarding the beach entrance (you must pay) even leave their posts. Because the main attraction in the German North Sea is the Watt.
