Main in Veitshöchheim

The palace, the summer residence of the prince-bishops of Würzburg, was built at the end of the 17th century. Balthasar Neumann enlarged it in 1753. Since 1814, the palace has been owned by Bavaria. In the 19th century, it was also used by the Bavarian royal family as a summer residence. It is now a museum where you can see the restored historical interiors.

But the most interesting thing here is the gardens. The garden in Veitshöchheim began its history in 1702. Most of the garden sculptures were created in the middle of the 18th century, and by 1779 it acquired the forms in which it was recreated in our time. This is one of the rarest examples of a rococo garden.

Rococo is expressed in frivolity, play with perspective. In any direction, more can be seen than it seems at first glance.

A grotto with shells is a mandatory part of such a park.
