Main and Spessart map. Würzburg – Hanau

Last Updated on 11/11/2024

This map shows the attractions along the Main from Würzburg to Hanau, mainly the Spessart, a mountainous forest north of the Main. The Main is a great choice for long bike rides, as there is minimal elevation gain and few major roads near the river. At the same time, there are few truly top highlights.

5. Lohr am Main

Small old town. School museum.
Spessart Museum in the castle Link

The town is trying to promote itself as the “home of Snow White”, but it hardly helps. I would say that I don’t see the point in visiting this Main loop, except perhaps on the way or as a bike route along the Main. Wertheim and Miltenberg are more interesting.

There was also a small castle, but it was all covered in scaffolding.

Wertheim

Cycling route along the Main: Wertheim – Miltenberg

An excellent cycling section with one drawback – too much sun in the summer. The main route from Wertheim runs predominantly along the right bank of the river, in Freudenberg it switches to the left side.

City Museum and Pharmacy Museum

Cycling route along the Main: Miltenberg – Aschaffenburg

On this section there is a cycling road on both banks, but the left bank is more built up and the road there goes either through the city or along the highway. After Erlenbach the hills spread out to the sides, and industrialization increases, so the point of following the route is completely lost. Another significant drawback is the poor signage of the route in the villages.

The section also cannot boast of any significant attractions.
After the obvious top attraction – Miltenberg – next Aschaffenburg is of interest, and not as a city, but for its museums and parks.
