Salzkammergut best places to visit and a little around it – on the map. The lakes mainly offer relaxing, water activities and hiking / biking tours, and many horse farms. There are not many additional entertainments except natur.

1. Hallein
Hallein – old town, Celtic Museum (link), Hofbräu Kaltenhausen Brewery Museum.
Transport from Salzburg: train or bus 170 from Mirabell.
Bad Dürrnberg – salt mine (link), Celtic village (link), coaster (2 km descent along the rail from the mountain), chairlift (link). Transport: from Hallein bus 41
Bad Vigaun – thermal bath (children only from 6 years old)
Near is Berchtesgaden. It is better to stay there, but day trips from Salzburg are also possible.

5. Freilassing

7. Braunau
The corner with Germany along the Salzach is not very interesting. There are sights along the border – more likely for travelers from the German side.
German side attractions – Low Bavaria map
Laufen/Oberndorf – Salzach loop and chapel where Silent Night sounded for the first time.
Tittmoning and Burghausen are interesting, especially the second one (on the photo).

Further interesting is Braunau – the historical center, in the museum there is a two-meter beard of the famous local city figure of the Middle Ages Steiniger

8. Attersee, Mondsee
Seewalchen – climbing forest (link)
St. Georgen – small open air museum – old farm Aignerhaus Museum
In Mondsee the most known is the cathedral, nothing more interesting was found here.
Not by the lake – at Neukirchen a.d. Vöckla:
– open-air museum Stehrerhof,
– a large playground with houses, numerous swings, a water slide, mini-railway – Obra Kinderland

9. Lake Fuschl (Fuschlsee)
A picturesque small lake with a castle hotel. There is a trail around the lake.
Nearby in Faistenau – Kletterwaldweg rope trail not high above the ground (enough helmets, no harnesses), 1000-year-old linden tree

10. Lake Wolfgang (Wolfgangsee)
Of all the lakes, this is the most entertaining.
In St. Gilgen has a cable car (link), a museum of musical instruments

11. Bad Ischl

Thermal bath – good, but not especially big, it can be overcrowded in rainy days
